Artwork donated by artist Laurel Hecht to the Atlanta VA Medical Center

Artist Laurel Hecht recently donated three paintings to the Atlanta VAMC in hopes that the paintings, located in the Community Living Center, will be able to brighten a Veteran's day. From l to r: Suddenly Anemone, Rogue Tulips, and Can you see how much I want you.

This was not something that acclaimed artist Laurel Hecht had done before, but when Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC) Director Leslie Wiggins asked if she was interested, Hecht says she did not hesitate to share her calling with Veterans.

“Art has been my passion forever. I’ve lived and painted in New York City; Ithaca, New York; Santa Fe, New Mexico and Cleveland, Ohio for many years,” says Hecht. “This was my first time donating my artwork and I am truly excited to be a part of the VA family; I’m just in awe of people that have put their lives on the line to fulfill their call to serve the United States.”

Hecht, who has cherished a 30 year art career, says painting gives her joy and hopes Veterans viewing her artwork will feel the same.

“I use nature as my inspiration,” Hecht said. “I paint flowers from my garden and try to capture what I find most interesting about them, especially the limitless combinations of color.”

Hecht donated three canvases to the Atlanta VAMC Community Living Center, an extended care facility for Veterans located in the main hospital that works to restore each Veteran to his or her highest level of well-being.

“I’m happy to give to those who have given so much and I’m just hoping this gift will brighten their day,” says Hecht.
