New Under Secretary for Health, Dr. David Shulkin (far right), recently visited the Atlanta VAMC to meet with Veterans and learn more about the services offered here. Shulkin was sworn in on July 6, 2015.

New Under Secretary for Health, Dr. David Shulkin, recently visited the Atlanta VAMC to meet with Veterans and learn more about the services offered here. Medical Center Director Leslie Wiggins, executive staff and VAMC employees escorted the Under Secretary around the hospital for a tour.

Dr. David J. Shulkin was nominated by President Barack Obama and sworn in as VA’s Under Secretary for Health on July 6, 2015. As Under Secretary, Dr. Shulkin directs a health care system with an annual budget of approximately $59 billion, overseeing the delivery of care to more than 9 million enrolled Veterans. VA, the nation’s largest health care system, employs more than 305,000 health care professionals and support staff at more than 1,200 sites of care, including hospitals, community based outpatient clinics, nursing homes, domiciliaries, and 300 Vet Centers.

He previously served as President at Morristown Medical Center, Goryeb Children’s Hospital, and Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute, part of Atlantic Health System. Dr. Shulkin also was President of Atlantic Accountable Care Organization (ACO), one of the largest Medicare-approved ACOs in the country.
