Partners and Education
As a teaching hospital, the Atlanta VAMC provides a full range of services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research.
The Atlanta VAMC is primarily affiliated with the Emory University School of Medicine*. The Atlanta VAMC is approved for 133 medical resident positions in a variety of disciplines. Last year, 412 residents and 89 medical students rotated through the Atlanta VAMC.
The Atlanta VAMC has also teamed with Morehouse School of Medicine* in establishing the East Point Clinic, which provides comprehensive primary and outpatient mental health care services. Additionally, the VAMC and Morehouse are working closely on collaborate issues for various academic teaching, research, and clinical initiatives.
Veterans Service Organizations
The Atlanta VAMC maintains a good working relationship with all of our veteran service organization (VSO) partners. We regularly brief our VSO representatives on changes impacting veterans' health care.
US Department of Defense
The Atlanta VAMC functions as a primary Receiving Center in the VA/DoD Contingency Planning Process and a Federal Coordinating Hospital in the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS). The Atlanta VAMC also serves as a training site for RNs and corpsman for the Naval Reserves Readiness Center, and trains RNs, 91Cs, and medics for the 3297th U.S. Army Hospital for Training Support Services.
